Browser compatibility
Browser | Supported | Notes |
Chrome | 34.0 | JIRA Capture is disabled by default in Chrome's "Incognito" mode. It can be enabled in chrome://extensions, but the JIRA Capture tab will open in a non-incognito browser window. |
Firefox | 28.0 | JIRA Capture follows Mozilla's official support policy for Firefox versions, which is the latest stable rapid release version (updated every 6 weeks) at the time of that JIRA Capture release. If you find that the latest stable rapid release version of Firefox is not supported in your version of JIRA Capture, it may be because your version of JIRA Capture is over six weeks old. Please try upgrading JIRA Capture to the latest release to resolve the problem. Please note that as of Bonfire 2.2, Firefox 3.6 is no longer supported, as it has reached End Of Life status. |
Internet Explorer | 7.0, 8.0, 9.0, 10.0, 11.0 | JIRA Capture does not support Internet Explorer's InPrivate mode, as IE disables all extensions in that mode. |
Safari | 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, 6.1, 7.0 | Safari 7 is supported in JIRA Capture 2.8 (Safari is supported in Bonfire 2.4 and later). JIRA Capture does not work in Safari's "Private Browsing" mode, as Safari blocks the saving or reading of Bonfire's settings data. |
Note that Capture for JIRA does not currently support any mobile browsers (iOS, Android, etc.).
Screenshot capture
In JIRA Capture 2.8 (since Bonfire 2.6), pasting images from the clipboard is supported. This allows the use of native operating system screenshot commands to capture Flash/Silverlight/Java content in web pages, as well as capturing and annotating images outside a web browser.
For more details, see the user guide at Taking screenshots.
As Capture for JIRA uses browser extensions, the screenshot capture depends on the mechanisms that each browser provides to extensions. This can produce some inconsistent results with non-HTML content.
Due to the different ways the major browsers capture screenshots of a web page, not all Flash objects embedded in a page will be shown in a Capture for JIRA screenshot.
Which objects are captured depends on the "wmode" parameter passed to the Flash object at the time it is loaded.
Similarly, Microsoft Silverlight has a "windowless" parameter, which is false by default (runs in windowed mode) but can be set to "true" to act like Flash's "wmode=opaque".
Most browsers run Java applets (and other embedded object processes such as Unity3D) in "windowed" mode – similar to Flash's "wmode=window" – which causes the same inconsistencies in screenshot capture as encountered with Flash objects.
Popup windows (web pages that have been created using the "window.open()" JavaScript function) also provide inconsistent results.
Browser | Standalone files/pages | Embedded objects
Files on local machine (file://) | PDF files | Images | Popup windows | Flash: wmode=window | Flash: wmode=direct Flash: wmode=gpu | Flash: wmode=opaque Flash: wmode=transparent | Silverlight: windowless=false | Silverlight: windowless=true | Java applets / Unity3D objects

Notes:
- Chrome
- Chrome gives extensions very limited access to popup windows
- Does not work in Mac OS X
- http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=51474
- Firefox
- Firefox doesn't display standalone PDF files in the browser, they must be downloaded and viewed elsewhere.
- Sidebars do not work in Firefox popup windows, see also:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375679
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=302288 - Mac OS X only – Windows and Linux show a blank area.
- Firefox has had some regressions (since version 11) that cause inconsistent behavior with Flash screenshots.
Firefox 13 on Mac OS X captures Flash wmode=window, but Firefox 13 on Windows and Linux does not.
- Internet Explorer
- Capture for JIRAÂ in Internet Explorer will capture a standalone image for annotating, but the annotation tools do not display properly.
- If the Capture for JIRAÂ button and menu item aren't available, try pressing the keyboard shortcut for toggling the sidebar (customizable in 1.6.2)
- Results are inconsistent, depending on the version of Windows and machine architecture.
- Results are inconsistent, sometimes the Flash is captured and sometimes a black area is shown instead.
- Safari
- Safari does not allow extensions any access to local files on a user's machine.
- Safari on Mac captures all Flash wmodes, while Safari on Windows only captures the opaque and transparent wmode values.
- Does not work in Mac OS X
